Last year Ukraine became an official member of the World Design Weeks network. Recently, from April 1 to 7, 2024, the second season of Ukrainian Design Week took place in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, becoming the most extensive creative event in the country this spring.

The most famous Ukrainian designers and international design studios based in Ukraine took part in the festival: MAKHNO Studio, GUNIA Project, Donna, GORN Ceramics and others.

This year's Ukrainian Design Week covered over 70 events. Throughout the week, various shows, lectures, tours, exhibitions, master classes, workshops took place. They were aimed at revealing the latest trends and design development prospects. In particular, visitors had the opportunity to attend lectures on the impact of artificial intelligence on design and architecture, sustainable fashion, clothing collection development, graffiti culture, and also participate in workshops on mosaic, 3D ceramic printing, pysanka, pottery, upcycling, linocut, creating affirmation paintings, etc.

The main event of Ukrainian Design Week was the first major Design Market. It took place in the largest cultural and art complex in Ukraine, the Mystetskyi Arsenal. The market brought together over 100 leading representatives from various design spheres - industrial, interior, graphic, object, fashion design, architecture, and others. Both young promising designers and industry leaders presented their works.

«The idea of Ukrainian Design Week 2024 was to make the festival as inclusive and diverse as possible. We consciously sought to present the works of various designers and manufacturers, providing opportunities for not only big brands with a worldwide name but also talented students and young authors. Such a variety of products and the synergy of dozens of design directions created an attractive contrast in the market space. The event allowed brands to reveal their potential, filling the global world of design with fresh ideas and new solutions», — say the organizers of the event.

During the lecture hall at the big design market, leading Ukrainian specialists and influencers shared their vision of the challenges and world trends in design, including:

  • Victoria Yakusha, one of the most influential women in the field of architecture and design according to Dezeen,
  • Maria Gavrilyuk, cofounder of the GUNIA Project brand, which is represented in 14 countries, including the USA, China, Japan and Europe,
  • Oleg Volosovsky, founder of Loft Buro, a jury member of architectural competitions and a nominee for international awards: Dezeen Awards, Frame Awards, SBID, Restaurant&Bar Design Awards, etc.

The rich program of the festival allowed designers, architects, artists, and visitors to deepen their knowledge of creative industries and get inspired for new creative ideas. The second Ukrainian Design Week 2024 became a platform for presenting the best Ukrainian manufacturers and advanced design solutions that are changing the future of the industry in Ukraine and the world.
